Module 3: Machine Operation & Setup¶
Overview¶
This module provides hands-on procedural instruction for setting up and preparing a plasma cutting system for operation. Students will perform gas pressure verification, consumable selection and inspection, ground clamp configuration, and standoff distance verification. By the end of this module, students will be able to independently set up a plasma system and perform test cuts with proper parameters.
Learning Objectives¶
- Perform gas pressure verification and adjustment using a regulator
- Select correct consumables by amperage rating
- Inspect consumables for damage and wear
- Properly configure and test ground clamp connections
- Verify and maintain standoff distance during cutting
- Perform startup and shutdown procedures safely
Module Structure¶
- Slide 1: System Startup & Safety Check
- Slide 2: Gas System Setup (Regulator, Pressure Verification)
- Slide 3: Consumable Installation & Inspection
- Slide 4: Ground Clamp Configuration & Testing
- Slide 5: Torch Technique & Standoff Distance
Assessment¶
- Practical skills check: Setup and test cut under supervision
