Module 3: Heat Transfer Vinyl

Duration: 3 hours | Microcredential: MCCPDL-U09M3-v1.0

Module Overview

This module covers heat transfer vinyl (HTV) materials, cutting techniques, and the heat press application process for creating custom garments, bags, and fabric-based products. Students learn the differences between standard, specialty, and printable HTV types, proper mirror-cutting workflow, and heat press parameters for various fabric types.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify HTV types (standard, glitter, flock, puff, printable) and their appropriate applications
  2. Properly cut HTV with mirrored designs and correct blade/material orientation
  3. Determine correct heat press parameters (temperature, time, pressure) for HTV-to-fabric combinations
  4. Weed HTV designs and apply carrier sheet correctly for pressing
  5. Troubleshoot common HTV failures including peeling, scorching, and incomplete adhesion

Module Structure

  • Slides: 3 slide presentations
  • Activities: 2 hands-on labs
