Safety Quick Reference

  • NEVER use silica sand — causes silicosis (irreversible lung disease)
  • Minimum PPE: Safety glasses (Z87.1), N95 respirator, hearing protection, gloves
  • Test unknown coatings for lead before blasting (LeadCheck swab)
  • Dust collector must be running before, during, and 5 minutes after blasting
  • Maximum exposure time: 2 hours continuous, then 30-minute break
