Module 3: Respiratory Protection and Ventilation

Duration: 3 hours | Microcredential: MCCPDL-U10M3-v1.0

Module Overview

This module covers respiratory hazards specific to abrasive blasting operations, selection and use of respiratory protective equipment, and ventilation system design and maintenance. Students learn to assess airborne hazard levels, select appropriate respirators, perform fit testing, and verify ventilation system effectiveness.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify respiratory hazards associated with different abrasive media and substrates
  2. Select appropriate respiratory protection based on hazard assessment
  3. Perform a user seal check on a half-face respirator
  4. Explain the principles of local exhaust ventilation for blast operations
  5. Verify ventilation system performance using basic measurement techniques

Module Structure

  • Slides: 3 slide presentations
  • Activities: 2 hands-on labs
  • Assessment: 10-14 question module quiz (70% pass threshold)
  • Safety Protocols: 1 safety procedure document
  • Student Materials: 1 reference guide

Prerequisites

  • M2 - Cabinet Operation and Technique completion recommended

Next Module: Unit Complete — Proceed to Unit 11: 3D Scanning and Reverse Engineering
